Natalie Cox has spent the past 30 years raising a wonderful family of four children with her high-school sweetheart. At age 49 Natalie underwent a major life pivot when she went to college for the first time; enrolling in the Horticulture Technician program at Durham College in Whitby, Ontario.
“Quite simply, I went back to college to learn to grow better weed”, she says with a grin.
In 2020 Natalie founded Afro Cannada Budsistas with her business partner Khadisha Thornhill.
Their mission is to provide a safe space for Black women to offer one another support while also normalizing cannabis through education, information, and exposure. She also started Growing With Natalie; a company focused on organic cannabis and vegetable cultivation and teaching others to grow their own as well.
A lifelong tropical plant collector, she boasts a 30-year-old Epipremnum aureum or Pothos, she affectionately calls “Mother”.
In the summer you can find Natalie in the garden with her dog Leo, tending to her prized heirloom tomato collection.

My husband and I met on our first day of high school.
I have abs of steel. My gymnastics lessons as a child formed such a strong abdominal core I can take a punch to the gut and do a handstand. I like to keep my steel abs protectively encased in an outer layer of fat. I also dream of doing stand-up comedy.

MsWeedwiki is one half of the dynamic duo founders of the Afro Cannada Budsistas, an online space created with her padna Natalie Cox dedicated to the normalization of cannabis use for Black women in Canada. Using her skills developed during 3 years of helping to grow a significant online space for Black moms (BMC), the Afro Cannada Budsistas has now grown to just over 500 members. In addition to promoting theme days and education about cannabis use, MsWeedwiki runs a virtual chat on Zoom called the Budsistas Mental Health Check-in for Black women across North America to share cannabis online while discussing their wins and their losses trying to manage mental health in an overwhelmingly triggering outside environment.
Outside of the Facebook group’s intimate online space, the Afro Cannada Budisistas have started their own website www.afrocannadabudsistas.com where MsWeedwiki promotes blogposts, educational videos on how to use cannabis accessories and her special baby: the MsWeedWiki SPEAKS Podcast, which features interviews chronicling the cannabis journey, passions and endeavours of amazing individuals in the North American cannabis space.
In addition to this, MsWeedwiki is a founding member & treasurer of PACC (Peoples Alliance of Cannabis in Canada) where she leads an advisory team focused on increasing BIPOC inclusion in the Canadian cannabis
industry. She will be facilitating an upcoming virtual Town Hall discussion on the barriers facing BIPOC’s inclusion in cannabis on Tuesday February 16, 2021. Watch out for some amazing initiatives to come out of this team including a business registry for BIPOC cannabis owners & amplification of talent pipelines for Black Indigenous & People of Colour to access opportunities in the industry surrounding this amazing cannabis plant. MsWeedwiki who’s government name is Khadisha Thornhill, recently completed the Cannabis Industry Specialization program at Durham College and will be looking at further ways to combine her 20+ years of insurance claims litigation experience to assist PACC in developing alternative dispute resolutions for the cannabis space. Khadisha is also passionately committed to advocating for better medical cannabis coverage for patients across Canada by working on finding real solutions to eliminating the barrier of access to cannabis medication created by Canadian extended health benefits providers and insurance carriers.
